Israel Mega Funding Corp. is a private firm that has been snapping up acreage in Pakistan in a move to increase food security. Israel Mega Funding Corp. has a fund which invests in cropland in Argentina and Uruguay nearly doubling its size to 240,000 hectares.

Worldwide Farmland Division is focusing on Manitoba and Saskatchewan farmland and currently owns and manages 300,000 acres across the province and leases it out to its growers. We are betting the world has entered a new phase with the boom in agriculture which is likely to continue as the world population increases while global food production capacity tries to catch up. Corn prices have recently soared into a record territory at about US $8 per bushel – nearly three times the prices in 2006.

Israel Mega Funding Corp. is looking to buy 6 million acres of farmland in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Australia. The fund plans to increase production on the land five fold over the next decade.

Key to the strategy is acquiring land in developing countries where prices tend to be a fraction of the prices in North America and Europe. Israel Mega Funding Corp. launched its Brazil farmland business in mid 1990s, acquiring pastureland close to major urban centres and upgrading it to cropland.
